Personal background
I am currently an incoming freshman to the Tufts class of 2010. At home i have a 2.8 ghz custom built computer which i think is too good to waste, as i can tear through a pair of work units in about 4 hours. I am ( when I can ) an amaroK developer. i enjoy cycling, ultimate frisbee, rock climbing, and playing volleyball. some of my favorite books include Cryptonomicon and Neuromancer.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that there is extraterrestrial life. maybe that life will not be sentient and intelligent, but it will be there. i cannot say when we will discover it, but when we do it will create an uproar as never seen before. our first priority would be to establish friendly contact, not threatening them. we should act nicely and maybe they will act kindly in turn. we should transmit a beacon, because it would increase the chances of a discovery, and unless they are totally bent on destroying us it would be mutually beneficial.
