Profile: Robert G. Gale

Personal background
I'm a retired Police Officer from Madison Heights, Michigan a Northern suburb of Detroit, Michigan, USA. I enjoy reading nearly any type of book but enjoy Science Fiction better then most. I sometimes think it would be fantastic to live in a world of mixed cultures from other worlds (ie; Star Wars, Farscape, etc.) and to travel between those planets in a timeless manner. (ie; Star Trek -- all of them!) After nearly 30 years of dealing with problems, either real or imagined, of the human beings on this planet; it's relaxing to sink into the unknown worlds of Science Fiction (or SETI for that matter)and let the mind wander for a bit, leaving reality behind along with all those problems humans tend create and present to law enforcement personnel.

In addition to reading, I enjoy playing golf (not well) and am currently the Treasurer of one of the largest private computer clubs in the State of Florida. We live in a closed "Retirement Community" and our club offers free computer services to all of the residents in our community. Our club offers free training classes to all club members, meeting 3 days a week.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I believe in E.T. life? Why not? We human beings are certainly quite special, but do we have the right to be so arrogant and irresponsible as to believe that we are the only living "intelligent" species to ever exist? "Other" beings may not have the same chemical base we all share, they may not resemble us in very many ways, but they certainly could exist. Sure, some will say there is no "proof" that other beings could exist out there somewhere, but then there is certainly no "proof" that they could NOT exist either! Not that many years ago, people on this great planet earth would not have believed that "pictures" would be sent through the air (radio/television waves)and man was held speechless to see "air-ships" traveling through the sky with passengers on board, never mind that they are now traveling faster then the speed of sound and man has walked on the moon! Who are we to say that "beings" won't be able to travel between worlds or even the stars. We are truly only limited by our vivid imaginations! SETI may not be the actual source of our discovering an alien life form, but it is certainly a "small step" in the right direction for mankind.
