Profile: Ray Smith

Personal background
I'm a 42 year old computer science major from Alaska. I used to make my living as a Bush Pilot and Big Game Guide but became interested in computers and decided to make the 5 year commitment for a CS degree. I am currently a Junior and in my 3rd year. My hobbies are outdoor sports and computers. :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe there is life on other planets but because of the area and distances involved think that listening for signals, while a worthwhile pursuit, has poor odds of success. I am positive that the future of the human race lies in space travel. Who will be the next Columbus? And, where is the next America?
We should search and we should transmit signals. The only danger lies in complacency about, or fear of, the future.
