Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, but-- The time expanse coupled with the space expanse make it terribly unliklely that another civilization of like technology is near enough. We have had radio technology for barely 100 years ...out of the 2-some million(?) of human existence. But "unlikely" includes a possibility, so let's keep processing.

2. This is a decision I cannot make for the entire species. No one can. Wait a couple hundred years until we're established on a couple planets (hopefully in a couple stellar systems), then one of them can decide to take the risk. But it's a small risk; see #1.

3. But "unlikely" includes a possibility, so let's keep processing.
