Personal background
9I'm currently a university student living in Canada, studying
Mathematics and Computer Science.

9I like to play around with electronics, build military vehicle models,
biking and of course, crunchng numbers every now and then. I also play RPG's
online and offline. My favourites? Heavy gear and Jovian Chronicles by
DP9 (dp9.com). I also enjoy target shooting and shooting the bow.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
9I do think that extraterrestrial life exists - there's enough theory
to support that view. I do not think we will discover it too soon, but who
knows. As for benefits and dangers ... an obvious danger would be contacting
a Dominating race who'd like to take over the planet ;). But seriously, even
a simple technology exchange could be quite dangerous. It is a fact that
certain terrestrial factions would like nothing more than to grab technology
and use it to achieve superiority, be they countries or corporations.
9Or perhaps we'll be quite reckless with any new technology and manage
to damage our ecosystem even more or something along those lines.

9I believe that a beacon would not be powerful enough to catch anyone's
eye so to speak, unless they were 'passing by' ... we could of course use a
directed beam or pulse, but I imagine funding for such a project would be more
than scarce.

9I have too many spare CPU cycles when not running some ridiculous
mathematical simulation. ;) I think the project is great, and I hope that
one way or the other, it is a success.
