Personal background
I live in Illinois, just outside of Chicago. I am a team coordinator for a manufacturing company, but do a lot of work with computers. I'm a Sci-Fi fan who likes exploring new ideas brought about in movies and television. I am an amatuer astronomer although with light pollution, i don't get to see much in my area. I am married with 2 boys who also like to watch the stars. We really enjoy the yearly meteor showers where we can stretch out on a warm summers night and watch natures fireworks.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that the odds are just too great for life not to exist out there somewhere. Humans have discovered through the ages that things just have patterns. We all thought the world was flat for a long time, but looking to the stars, the answer was right in front of us. We thought that Earth was the center of the universe, but by again looking up, we found out that planets orbit stars and stars circle the center of galaxies and who knows we might discover that galaxies circle something else. Life is a by-product of nature. Why should we think that it could only happen here.

I think our technology is advancing at a rapid pace. Look at how far this project has come in only a few years. It shouldn't be long until we have the right tools to pick out a signal from somewhere else. I wouldn't be too quick to respond or just send an amplified signal into space just yet. If anything I think we should discover all we can about ET before we extend an invitation to dinner.

I started running SETI because I was itrigued about the idea of being part of such a great discovery. I think the people involved are heading in the right direction and I'm fascinated by the response of so many others around the world that have choose to participate. When you say that you are doing this,a lot of people look at you like your nuts. It's great to see all the people and companies out there that are giving their time to help. It lets you know you're not alone.
