| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

1) I think that if the universe is infinite, there is little to no chance that Earth is the only place where life exists. Discovering life from somewhere else would obviously change everything forever.
2) Humans should transmit a beacon for others to find because it increases the chances (however small they are) that we will cross paths with another lifeform. I'm not sure what we should send. I guess I'll leave that up to the scientists. ;)
3) I run SETI@home because it does absolutely no harm to me in running it while I'm away from my computer, and it helps us towards a discovery that would change life as we know it forever. |
