Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life exists. I think that the first life outside this planet that humans discover will be a bacterial of some sort that a astronaut scrapes off a rock on some planet. I do think that there is intelligent life in the cosmos but I’m not entirely sure that they will be at the same technological level as us. There are many possible benefits to a discovery of this magnitude. The first would be the obvious economic potential. Any other intelligent life would have different ways of doing things that we could learn from and vice versa. The main problem that I see is Humans have a knack to try and destroy things that they do not understand. That will be the biggest obstacle for the human race to overcome when it initially contacts an ET.
