Personal background
I'm currently studying Computer Science at Linköping University, Sweden.
I find the idea of extraterrestrial life interesting and will gladly do what I can to aid in the search for it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think extraterrestrial life exists, but I don't believe it's as advanced as we hope it is. Of course, it's more likely we'll find them if they're broadcasting television or other "civilized" signals, but is it really that probable? I don't think so. But I don't like the idea that the only way of finding them is to land on their planet, since the chance is so small.

My reason for participating in SETI@home is that the search for aliens is one of the few important space-related projects. To find an alien civilization is far more important for man kind than the tracing of neutrinos in the polar ice cap ;) or some other project trying to solve an abstract thory of physics.
According to what I've found so far, SAH is the only way for me to actually increase the chance of success for such an important mission.
