Personal background
Been interested in technology and science for about 60 years, building electronics for 58, designing, programming ( mostly in assembler ), and otherwise I am generalist. Broadcast engineer, staging tech, tree planter, bus driver, mechanic, instrument tech, audio and computer repair tech, carpenter, painter. To quote Heinlein "Specialization is for insects."
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Mostly decided to run SETI@home in the winter since I'm using electric heat, might as well get some use out of the power on it's way to heat, doesn't hurt having a pile of formerly dead computers too. I think of the project as one of those low probability events, during any single year, that would have an out sized impact on our collective understanding if it finds anything. I'm not expecting it to pay off during my life, but if no one looks the lack of results will be certain.
