Going to be a while yet. Telescopes aren't really sensitive enough. Also there's a lot of RFI floating about...

Benefits? Too far a way to strike up a conversation really. Dangers? Mass hysteria!
Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?
We have done haven't we? Anyone got a spare 1 or 2 gigawatt microwave transmitter and high gain antenna we can use please?... oh and a bloke to put shillings in the electricity meter....
