Profile: kiwi_canuck

Personal background
I go by the nickname Kiwi_Canuck, which reflects my country of birth (New Zealand) and my country of residence (Canada.) Whilst always having a general interest in astronomy, I became rather passionate about our Universe in the Spring of 2002 when all five naked-eye planets were nicely aligned in the evening twilight. I invested in a small scope, joined the Fraser Valley Astronomers Society in Abbotsford, BC http://fvas.net and started on a quest to discover "what's out there." In October 2003, I joined SETI, and my home computer has been crunching WU's round the clock since then.

In my other life, I'm the Circulation Manager for three community newspapers in the suburbs of Vancouver, BC. I have a husband and two adult sons who, to a greater or lesser degree, also enjoy the clear starry nights whenever possible.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I find it hard to accept that Humankind is the only intelligent life form in this vast Universe that we call home. I like to think that we will discover evidence of the existence of extraterrestial life in my lifetime, but with the elements of distance and time that bind us to our Solar System, I doubt that we will have the means to travel to other worlds any time soon. It is more likely that UFO's will stumble upon, and visit Earth!
