Personal background
Hi I live on the south coast of england and am currently in Brighton. I am 29 and am currently off work with a disability, due to a motorbike crash. Before the crash I worked as a nurse in the mental health field.

I am into computers in a big way and will at some point in the future build myself a linux cluster.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Please note these opinions were true at the time of writeing. And that the writer reserves the right to to change his opinion at any time. (hehehe)

I dont think that exstraterrestrial life exists. I KNOW it exists. There are to many possibilities for it not to exist. The question is 'will the life have intelligence of a similar or higher level then our own ?'. I personally feel that there is a good chance of exstraterrestrial life with an inteligence equal to or greater then our own existing. The possible benifits and dangers from such a discovery would be small at first. And I doubt anything would be done about it in a rush. The world leaders will still lead and do things the way all leaders have throughout the ages. The only thing that will make a difference is, who is in power at the time. The same thing can be said when It comes to first contact.
Even if we discovered a signal and decide that we want to make contact. It would still take years to establish contact. We would have to put a saterlite up (if not one up there thats useable). and send a constant stream of data and wait for them to notice. Hmm how long would that take. Also you would then have to establish a way of communicateing anything intelligent.
Of couse if they are more advanced then we are. They might be able to travel here to seek out the source of the transmision. =D

Well just a few of my own thoughts.
