Personal background
I'm sixteen and I always enjoyed astronomy. I read Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan, but most of their work is a mystery to me... Oh well, at least I can use this site to be a part of something I CAN understand!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extra-terrestrials must exist. They will probably find us, though. Consider our species' age, and how old life is. An alien race could be far older than us. Then consider how far technology has advanced in the last century: a race even a fraction older than ours could be so superior technologically as to make us seem like some hairless apes with sticks on a termite mound. We should transmit information, because it would work light a welcome mat. It kind of says, "hey, let's hang out", or something like that. We should just start out with the usual formalities: Hello, my name is blah-blah, we live on so-and-so, the weather is nice... That seems like a nice way to go.
