Personal background
I am a [ current year(CE) - 1981 ]-year-old mischievous procrastinator from Pori, Finland.

I'm a bit of a nerd, with various interests in science (fiction) (films, reading, writing, doodling my own plans of world domination), technology and various other subjects.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There must be life somewhere out there, but only time will tell if the Seti project will help to find it (Well, at least I'm doing my part to increase the possibility).
Other civilizations might exist, but they might be technologically even more primitive than us (and far, far away) or much more advanced and not considering us, puny Earthlings, worth contacting. (Remember "prime directive" from Star Trek.)
Even if we were to stumble upon an ET signal, who knows how long would it take for us to decrypt/decode the message. That's assuming the extraterrestrials even use radio signals to communicate...
...et cetera; as a realist I don't believe in a discovery in the near future. Making contact with other civilizations might still be centuries or even millenniums away.
