Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that as a developed species we would be grossly naive to presume that we are the only intellectual life form in existence. We assume that intelligent life will be carbon based because we are, yet we have already found silicon based life forms on this planet in extremely hot places. We assume that life needs water, again because we do.

There are lots of theories about extra terrestrial life and the merits and / or dangers of attempting to contact them. I think we are missing the big picture. We have how many species on our planet? How many species can we fully communicate with? I know the generic answer is mathematics (that’s another astonishing presumption) that to be intelligent a species must evolve a form of mathematics that can be broken down into binary code. Perhaps a hugely advanced civilisation which has evolved into a collective conciseness would have no need for mathematics. We have been sending out signals into space for far to long to question it now, what we must decide as a species (not divided countries) is what message we wish to be received.

9We as a species are as pathetic as rival gangs of fleas arguing about who owns the dog that we live on, we are bitter and filled with hatred. Any alien life form that intercepts our televised messages would be wise to move a bit further away from us after watching how we treat each other. The only time I believe that an advanced alien life form would contact us is when we are capable of living in harmony ourselves. Only a fool would walk into the middle of a bar fight.

Do alien life forms exist? Can be answered with a simple question, Do we exist? We are after all an alien life form inhabiting this place for such a small amount of time.
Could we accept and embrace the truth? NO. We can’t accept the truth about ourselves.

My message to ET, Phone home. Tell them we may be ready to talk by the end of the millennium, if we are still around. Use our knowledge to help mankind and then maybe we would be. worth a call.
