Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI is a dangerous business, especially if we succeed.

If the alien we detected are capable of coming to us before we go to them, then they no doubt have more advanced technology than us, at which point we'll have to consider whether or not the alien is benevolent or malevolent. Are they going to ignore this start-up civilization? Are they going to help out this fledgling race? Would they feel that we are just some semi-intellegent animals to be used as they please? Or are they going to consider us as a future threat to them and take pre-emptive steps to neutralize this potential threat?
