Personal background
I am a 19, almost 20, year old college student in Georgia, USA. I have always been into space and extraterrestrial stuff. So much that I did one science fair project on astronauts and another on the existence of extraterrestrials (which won 2nd place in the school competition). I got a telescope two years ago and am taking some astronomy classes at my school to learn more about the stars and planets and the whole solar system. I can pick out a few constellations, but still have to have a map to find most of them.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am using SETI because I believe there is life on other planets. Not neccesarily in our own galaxy, but there are SO many of them out there and we can't travel to them. Why would we be the only ones? It just doesnt seem fair that we would be stuck here while there is SO much to explore. I support this project because I would like to be one of the ones who does find a signal. I know the chances of doing so aren't that great, but it sure doesn't hurt anything. I recommend SETI to everyone I know to try and get more people to sign up for it. The more people working on it, the faster we can analyze the data and the greater the chances of finding a signal from another world.
