Personal background
As for myself, I'm middle aged, technically trained, have interests in space and physics.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm a business owner interested in utilizing my companies excess cpu time for a reasonable cause. Our computers cpu's are idle probably on the order of 80% of the time.
I believe there is extraterrestrial life but I also think finding life out in space using the technology currently available to us will be like finding the perverbial needle in ten-billion haystacks. Also, I believe that we are limiting ourselves by thinking estraterrestrials are using "radio waves" for communication. When our intellegence has grown to understand the physics of the universe (not just the physics of earth) will we be touching on the technology needed to communicate effectively with extraterrestrials. For now we peek at the sky and sample miniscule bits of information. Information that in all probability is only noise produced by pulsars and other galactic collisions, etc.
