Profile: Lucas Thompson

Personal background
I am many things...
I am a hacker...
Familiar with pretty much every non-MS language and most platforms. Got a University hand-me-down PDP (10?) when I was 6 years old and was told 'If you want the computer to work you have to learn how to program it'... I'm going on 31 now so you can figure out the 25 years in between :)

I am a musician...
Started piano at 3... got a Fender Strat at 15... dropped out of high school at 15... again, you can fill in the blanks pretty easily. At 21 I finally dropped the 'rock star' mentality and went back to being a full-time geek and trying to get a job with no high school diploma.

I am a scientist...
People around me consider me a 'math god' but truly... I only know so much math because I forced myself into QED theories and quantum mechanics during grade 7. I'm actually horrible at math... and Lorentz can kiss my butt :)

The picture for my profile is Tanz, he was a good cat who will now never get the chance to frolic on another celestial body. I hope I will.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI@Home is the most worthwhile distributed endeavor currently being carried out. I could not imagine anything more important or significant to donate CPU cycles (or money) to.
