Personal background
Hello, I'm a thirty-one year old, born and bred in Barnsley, UK.

Currently I'm working at the Universtiy of Wales, Aberystwyth, working on a
mathematical model of the Earth's thermosphere, ionosphere and plasmasphere.

In my spare time I enjoy swimming, playing water polo and the occasional
triathlon. I also enjoy reading, particularly Iain (M) Banks novels (I'm
desperatly waiting for an invitation to work for Contact and SC!)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm convinced that extraterrestrial life exists, and strongly support the
SETI@home project as a first step towards finding our galactic neighbours.

It has been pointed out by a number of people that given the current age of
the universe, if other life existed, it would have had ample time to colonise
the rest of the galaxy by now. This line of reasoning does seem to indicate
that life is probably more scarce than we imagine. Also, since the human race
has only recently become advanced enough to detect cosmic signals, it would be
amazing good luck to detect any signal straight away. It thus seems likely
that any contact we may have with another civilisation in the near future will
come about from them finding us rather than the other way around.

Saying that though, I do hope the SETI@home project is successful (and I hope
it is my computer that finds 'the message') Can you imagine how exciting it
would be !!!
