Personal background
The age is a mere 43 and still learning. I don't know what I really want to do... I'll figure it out when I grow up... but I'm not in any hurry.
I am a programmer by profession, a dancer by choice, and a dreamer by luck of the draw. I am divorced, have two daughters, and collect things.
Pins are something that always gets my interest, stamps can sometimes draw my attention, and a variety of other miscellaneous items will always distract me.
Time travel (or the possibility) has always intrigued me. Space travel is obviously in the cards... only a matter of when, not if.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does life elsewhere exist? I think those who think we are alone are not only wrong, but have an ego issue. Of course there are other forms of life out there. To think that we're the only ones is pure fantasy. In all the stars, in all the galaxies, she had to come into this one. Sounds nice. Some day (probably many days), we will extend our reach... if we don't blow ourselves up from all the egos already on this planet.
I'm agnostic. I don't know if there is a God. He may exist but may be merely a higher form than us. Is that possible? Tell that to lower life forms on this planet. Every life has something (or someone) above them. To think you're the top means you have no imagination.
Will we find other life forms (via this search or others like it)? I doubt it. I suspect they will find us first. But just our minimal exploration might be a trigger to others out there that this little, tiny planet might be worth exploring. And that's the light that will lift us above where we are today.
What would we send if we were to send a beacon? The basics... enough to show others that we're here. Surely others who will ever find us will know how get here in a reasonable time... and hopefully show us the same when they arrive.
No, I'm not worried about space aliens arriving and having dinner. If they come this far, I doubt we would be much of a treat. No, if others come here, it will be because they're exploring and will want to learn about us just like many of us want as well. I can only dream that I would be around when that time comes. I doubt it will come in my lifetime, but I can dream. Too many on this little rock of ours don't know how to dream. They're too busy trying for world power or other minor annoyances.
