Personal background
I'm a service tech at Magnus High Speed Internet. I started playing with computers in 1978 thanks to Uncle Sam (Navy). My "first" was a Univac 1218 and then the UYK20 (actually had integrated circuits), both state of the art ship board defense and targeting systems. It amazes me how far we have come... and to think of what could be in the next 25 years! As far as Seti@home, I certainly believe that we simply cannot be the only intelligent life. I'm very happy to be able to contribute to such a daunting task in my own small way. What a blast!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

Of course it does! The notion that we are alone in this universe is absurd. When we will discover extraterrestrial life is anyones guess, but I think how is through a project such as this one. There is no danger or benefit to this search that doesn't accompany any quest to know the unknown.

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

We have been transmitting for years (albeit garbage), but not long enough to go very far.

Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

I just love looking at the sky... Seti@home lets me listen too. I love it.
