Personal background
Well, at the time of this entry I am 18 years old and currently living in a small town called Waupaca, WI. Just 60 miles west of Green Bay, it's a small town of 5,600 with not much to do. I am a senior at the local high school (aptly named for the town no less...) and I'm planning to head out east, hopefully Princeton, for college.

Currently I work as a dishwasher for the Waupaca Woods Restaurant. It isn't such a terrible job; I've always considered menial work as very cleansing for the soul. This is also where I received the name "Big E" in response for following my dad "Big Mike" (he's a foodservice salesman). Right now I have seen four people quit dishwashing and six people hired and fired during my tenure. Appanretly not very many people seem to take my views on work.

Well at the risk of sounding long winded, I'll end my life there. If anyone would like to contact me feel free to do so at taran36@yahoo.com . Thanks for reading!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I see humanity approaching the next step in our cultural revloution very soon, and I feel that SETI is aiding immensely in finding humanity's place in the universe. Barring any military scientific project, I view that SETI@home is, by in large, the most all-encompassing scientific and technological effort put forth my a significant amount of everyday and ordinary citizens. The world as we know it is seeking answers to our place in the cosmos. Many place their faith in religion or dogma, others in themselves, but still some attempt to look for answers in the physical heavens by the scientific method.

Altruism is considered to be the greatest virtue of all; why should we only be content to think about the here and now while he have the ability to help this world's future generations? This is why SETI@home is here, and why we all contribute to the cause; not only for the satisfaction that someday we might be confronted with the possibility of sentient life beyond the bounds of our planet, but the ability to contribute to the total sum of knowledge for our great-grandchildren. Nearly three million seperate computers work twoards the unified goal of finding technology similar to us in the heavans. What an amazing feat!

If we were to consider the ability of this kind of parallel computing on a even a national level in the United States, imagine what wonders would come from this supercomputing revolution! This is why SETI@home is so popular amongst all people regardless of their stance on the question of alien civilization. The mere ability to be a contributing factor to something larger than ourselves is far more rewarding than anything else.
