Personal background
I'm a programmer for a small company in Massachusetts, born in 1965, graduated from Tufts in 1988. One of my hobbies is playing around with technology to see what kinds of neat things I can do at home. Because of that, I have too many computers lying around. I have 4 cats in my small house, they're all long hairs so I vacuum a lot.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run seti@home because I can, I also do "useful" projects, Rosetta and Climate Prediction. I have several computers in my house and they might as well be doing something productive when they're on and not being used for anything else. I think there is probably a very good chance that there is life somewhere else in the universe. I don't necessarily think we'll be able to contact any other life forms in my lifetime, but I see no reason not to at least listen, to see if we can hear anything. The universe is so very vast, I don't think it's likely that we will find other life forms, even if they do exist in the correct time period and have the technology to send out messages of some sort. It just seems like almost a cosmic joke that we're even here in the first place, so if we do find other life somewhere else, what a great punch line that will end up being!
