Personal background
Curiosity, not belief, beguiled me into participating in this project.

I suppose this curiosity developed in response to the humble realization that we are insignificant; our place inconspicuous to the vastness of the universe.

And, with our own world so abundantly populated with life, even flourishing in places thought until recently too hostile for survival, it seems almost negligent not to investigate life any place humanly possible, particularly the stars!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The SETI project is exciting, even more exciting as technology improves and the resources increase. Still, the pragmatic approach in the search is restricted to extraterrestrial life not just possessing technology in radio or laser communications but to those whom actually use it.

This window of opportunity, from what we know of earth, is a mere century or two out of 400 millions years of silent habitation. Challenged further by the vast distances between candidates and other complications itemized by the Drake Equation, we are faced with the likelihood that only a small number of alien civilizations are actually detectable.

Yet, the possibility of even one encounter is enough to peak my curiosity and dispatch my fervent participation.
