Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I believe that extraterrestrial life does exist, how can Humans be the only life within this vast universe, that does not make sense. I am not sure when and how humans will discover the life, perhaps when we make a decent technological advance, we will be "visited" by other extraterrestrials, within this universe. The possible benefits of this is that we may be able to share and learn other technologies off them, however, if thye are hostile we may find that we are in a lot of trouble especially if they have already achieved long distance space travel as we don't have any technology that would even come close to what they have.

2. Yes, I think that we should transmit a beacon for others to find, the information to send should just include our location and a peaceful "invitation" rather than anything else, if we send any information regarding out current technical achievements or our biological structure if found by the wrong lifeform, we could very well give them information that may compromise our lives.

3. I run Seti@home because, it is one way that we can both look for extraterrestial life and be informed if we are possibly visited by such a lifeform.
