Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
When mankind does discover intelligent e.t. life (or vice-versa) it will most likely come serendipitously (see ST: First Contact). That's not to say that the seti@home program is a waste of time, in fact I find it a highly worthwhile endeavour. However history seems to show that some of the greatest breakthroughs come by accident or a well timed stroke of luck. When e.t. life is discovered it will be a defining moment in the history of our planet. I believe that by becoming part of our Galactic community the petty differences that keep many of us distracted from the important things in life will disolve rather quickly.
