Personal background
I am in my mid 50's from Montreal, Quebec and still living in the area. I have a BSc degree from Sir George Williams University (now part of Concordia University) and have been working in the computer industry since 1970.

When time and money permit, I fly, scuba dive, call modern western square dance and breed and show dogs (Bearded Collies).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I hate to waste idle cycles on the various systems I have hanging about and the SETI project seemed to be a worthy user of the surplus. Logic dictates that there must be some other intelligent life in the universe though it may be a challenge to detect it given the vast volume of space to search and the probability that most manifestations may not be "on our wave length" in many dimensions or have been sufficiently developed sufficiently long ago for their signals to be reaching us. None the less, it is still worth a look. We have searched for smaller needles in bigger haystacks.
