Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is no doubt in my mind that we are not alone. How could we be unique? We can't even fathom the vastness of our universe. I feel lucky to be able to participate in the search for anything that's trying to tell us something. There is so much computing power out there--and it is only growing exponentially--that distributed computing holds vast potential in projects like this and the human genome project.
Who knows when we'll discover a signal? Maybe tomorrow. Maybe your computer is finding one right now! The only way we'll ever hear a signal, though, is to listen.
