Profile: Robert Clarke

Personal background
I live in Brisbane Australia and was born in Glasgow Scotland 3rd October 1956.

I am married (27th Aug 1999) to a lovely lady Solfrid from Norway who I met across the Internet. We have a little girl Melissa (in the picture with me) who was born 3rd July 2000.

I stopped running Seti@Home shortly after starting after clocking up around 23 units, I have been back into since June 2002 and 11 months later I am getting very close to 500, so I am happy about that.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In my mind there is something out there, we cannot be the only planet with intelligent life, it would be illogical to think otherwise.
With the amount of noise our Earth makes, I ask myself the question...
'Why have we not been visited (for everyone to see)'?... The answer I come up with is either
a) Other civilisations are not as advanced as us, or are not looking.
b) We have been found by a more advanced friendly civilisation, but we have not reached a maturity, or evolved sufficiently, therefore they are waiting.

If the civilisation in b) is not friendly and is a threat to us then why would they wait! So an advanced threatening civilisation seems unlikely.

I am involved in Seti@Home as I feel it is a way of being involved, it brings people together across the world on a common goal, it is also a fairly simple and cost effective way to be involved.
