Personal background
I am a high school science and technology teacher from Wheaton, Maryland, USA. I work at Spingarn Senior High School in Washington, DC. I teach Physics, Biology, and computer technology and networking. I am the school's technology coordinator and Web master (http://spingarn.k12.dc.us).
I am also a professional jazz trombonist and recording artist.
Carl Sagan was one of my idols.
I am a huge fan of science and science fiction.
"Contact" was one of my favorite movies.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. "If not, it would be a terrible waste of space." I think it will happen in my lifetime (the next 50 years). There is little danger involved beacuse of the vast distances that separate the galaxies and the physical limitations of space travel.
2. Aren't we already doing that with radio and television transmissions? Anyway, yes. Time capsule-type multimedia information including art, music, and science from all nations on earth.
3. I run SETI@Home because I want to share in the thrill of "first contact." I think this project is innovative and a way to bring the planet together as one.
I would like to see more about how the data that I process is further analysed to get important data.
