Personal background
Once a professional mathematician, turned into computers to pay the mortgage. For hobbies, besides raising my children, I sing in a couple of choruses and am trying to organize my own a capella pop group. Still do some math and am currently improving my knowledge of physics, hoping to tackle a couple of ideas I have got around.
Professionally, I work on systems management consulting, and am starting my own operation.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Although had overheard something about SETI, had never went in depth into it until I had to prepare a conference on distributed computing a couple of years ago. However, SETI appeared as the biggest parallell computing effort in the world, but couldn't show it as an accident with a fiber link in the campus left it temporarily incommunicated.
I am sure there is more life than us, and certainly, intelligence is somewhere else (is there any in office meetings?),worth searching for, and will love to be part of it when we find it. I have doubts about announcing us to the stars, as others could be equally shy, but hope I am wrong.
