Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that extraterrestial life exists. Maybe not in the sense we have come to know it from the movies. When the time comes, and mankind has discovered extraterrestial life, let it be intelligent or not, I believe fear and disbelief will be the next major challenge to overcome. With fear I do not mean fear of the new lifeform, but fear of loosing whichever religion man believes in at the time. In most religions man has been the supreme species and the Earth has been the only planet with life. When that changes religion fails and science wins. I myself am not a religious man and if I were it would be pretty blasphemeous of me to be a member of the SETI@home community, but on with the topic at hand. We have been sending radio signals into space for the last century or so in form of radio and tv signals so why should we stop now. We are a curious race and that is probably why I run SETI@home. I am curious :-)
