Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Is silence golden in the cosmic scale? Perhaps not. We try to infer intelligence from radio signals, so what kind of a message are we sending by not sending a message? In other words, it's only fair for us to do some transmission if we expect The Others to do so.

Whatever its outcome, SETI@home has turned out a sign of good hope for mankind, because I see there are plenty of people willing to look outside the human-centred box. There are indeed bigger things in life than "shopping and fucking."

Computers should never be idle -- they're almost free labour! I will shut mine down, when there's no work left for computers in this world.

"Sometimes I think we're alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we're not. In either case the idea is quite staggering." (Sir Arthur Charles Clarke)
