Personal background
Hi! I am 33 years old and do contract web programming work. I love computer games especially RPGs and MMOs. I spend WAY too much time playing! I also create silver jewelry and love dancing to electronic music :) I am trying to understand Quantum Mechanics because what Rodger Penrose said about consciousness bugges me. I have come to 2 conclusions so far. There is 'stuff' down there (Plank scale) and looking at the VERY big will help us understand the VERY small. I want to do work in AI.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There has got to be life like us out in the universe somewhere. It took 3 billion years for us to evolve, but the universe is only 14 billion years old. That is about 1/5 of the total life of the universe. We are probably one of the first 'clans' around, so I think we will be hard pressed to find others. That is why I joined :) I believe that our life is the most precious and rare system-object in the universe. Science has always replaced mysticism not by refuting but by pushing the metaphysical to the extreme outskirts of probability. If someone else in the universe is doing somthing like SETI they will find us, right? SETI finds signals coming from Earth, right? That is enough for me. I believe that the search could be extended to searching for neural network type self-referential patterns also. Who knows, we might find an intelligence made up of some of the clouds of Jupiter. Needles in haystacks, you know? :)
