Personal background
I recently moved to Miami, Florida, and do I love it. Between the great weather, wonderful ham radio community, beaches, babes, and Art Deco architecture, I certainly understand why so many move hear and never leave. I'm moved here for school reason, to be closer to my family, and cost of living (compared to D.C. where I use to live). One of the many perks to living here is I'm that much closer to "the Dish". I'm gonna take a trip one of these days to see it in person.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I was thinking a little after seeing the survey on the question "When do you think humans will detect the first ET signal". Most thought sometime between 10-100 years. I don't think there is any way of telling. I am sure most of the people in the survey agrees, and just guessed on the survey. This isn't something that can be measured, or calculated. There isn't even variables to which to formulate the question in order for it to be solved. There's a few things that help us guess a likely scenario....number of solar systems in the Milky Way, how many other Galaxies, time of travel for the signal to reach Earth, amount of space we're monitoring, the amount of time it takes to process the data (the Seti@home part). But without knowing the originating part of the signal, it's still a lot of space to cover randomly.

This is just a thought, a rambling off the top of my brain. Personally, I hope we discover ET tomorrow (and if not tomorrow, the next day...and so on). We should never quit looking (listening).
