Personal background
I wandered into computer programming after graduating from college. I had a degree in Music and was suddenly faced with the prospects of earning a living. I quickly discovered that music history was not going to pay the bills. Certainly not in the style in which I wanted to become accustomed.

So, naturally, I wound up going to work for the phone company (you remember those days, when there used to BE a phone company?) And, naturally, they felt that I was ideally suited to be traind to operate one of those complicated gadgets called computers. They sent me to a week of COBOL, a couple of days of JCL and >>DUB!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I learned to read from my father before I entered school. He was convinced that the methods used to teach reading at that time would ruin me for life. He must have been right. By the time I was in the 4th grade I was raiding his reading stand for books. His books were always better than the stuff I got at school. He liked to read westerns, adventure and...>ta da!
