Profile: Silgar

Personal background
I am a Naval Nuclear Reactor Operator stationed in South Carolina on shore duty. I've been on submarines for about 6 years now it is time for a break. I made chief last cycle which is probably one of the proudest moments of my life. An unoffical survey determined that I was the youngest chief in the Navy at 25 - if anyone knows otherwise please let me know. I'm into computers in a small way, science fiction a little bigger but woodworking takes up most of my time.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am of the belief that the universe is infinant therefore extraterrestrial life has to exist. There also has to be colonies that are more underdeveloped then ourselves and we will never meet, but there are also colonies that are more advanced then ourselves and they either haven't found us yet or they have and just not let us officially know about it. I'm not so sure that WE will discover THEM, I think it will be the other way around. When it does happen I think it could be good or bad. We are a war like planet and as a majority fear the unknown. I think we could obviously learn from a new species but put an unpredictable human in the mixture no telling what may happen. Other than the TV and radio signals that we are already sending out maybe if we sent out a message in the universal language of mathematics we would recieve a response faster from another race. I think this program is great. I was shocked to see that there are over 4 million users on here. I think that definately says something about whether or not we will find something out there. I want to find another race which is why I am submitting my time to the project. Not everyone can say they were a part of history, and when we find that other race it will be the biggest turning point in our history.
