Personal background
I was born and raised in Maine. I joined the Air Force right out of high school and am currently stationed at Minot AFB, North Dakota. Check out the public link for our base when you have time. I enjoy building and repairing PCs but I am NOT a software person. Give me broken hardware and I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll fix it. With any luck I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll be retiring from the military in 2 or 3 years to enjoy a more leisure life in rural North Dakota flying my ultralite aircraft, which I have yet to purchase.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
A coworker introduced me to the whole SETI concept, which I thought was pretty cool right from the beginning. When I was a child I use to watch the TV show \\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Project Bluebook\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" whenever it was on. I have always wondered if there is life out there. There must be...we can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t be the only intelligent life around the universe...(it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s just too damn BIG!) and I suppose it is only a matter of time before we make some sort of contact. I was so intrigued by the SETI concept that I thought I would put all my PCs at home to good use while they are sitting idle. I use to crunch about 40 - 50 WUs/day using SETI Classic. My RAC now hovers around 8000 credits(cobblestones?) each day on average from all my PCs that are working feverishly processing those new workunits. I guess it wouldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t hurt to broadcast some sort of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\"beacon\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" for other life forms to intercept and possibly respond to. Maybe we already are and the public just doesn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t know it yet.

Happy number crunching!!
