|Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home|
|1. Extraterrestrial life may exist with or with out an individual or collective belief. Detection of Extraterrestrial Intelligence is relavent to humankind's placement in the universe. Skeptics should want to be involved in a project like this to demonstrate the futility of the effort.|
2. Sure, human should transmit a beacon. Two problems.. which direction to aim the beacon? what to send? Since our own detection method includes a duration factor, we should certainly want a duration element in our direction. What will be detected as intelligence? Maybe a simple "we're here!" pattern that includes a incremental prime number. Does this pass our own intelligence test?
3. I run SETI@Home for the fun of it. As a "computer geek", the project offers a fair measurement of relative system performance. I look forward to the project moving on to new levels.
