Profile: Jan David

Personal background
I was born on the 30th of May 1968 in Antwerp, Belgium. During my childhood I used to watch my father experiment with all kinds of electronic circuits and equipment. This is probably the reason why I became an electronics engineer. Nowadays I work in the IT business. The fascination I've had with science has only grown with the years. Some time ago, I took up diving as a hobby. The strange and beautiful world under the sea is so different and wonderful that I often feel that it's the closest any ordinary person can get to experiencing that other different and wonderful place: outer space !

Although two totally different environments, they are both very strange and intriguing to us humans. It's my believe that humanity should focus on these two areas if we wish to progress further as human beings.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe ET exists. However, it's probably not that very intelligent. Afterall, wouldn't they have tried to contact us if they were so clever ? We should try to send a signal into space because it is much (technologically) easier to receive something than to broadcast a high power signal. Suppose ET is listening too ? In that case, we and ET would be listening but nobody's talking and we wouldn't discover anything ...

I run SETI at home because I believe in the goal of the project.
