Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The universe is far too large and vast not to have other forms of life in it. We see that to be true even on earth. In the most desolate areas-- such as the bottom of the ocean, the artic poles, etc. life exist and thrives. life in different forms but none the less life-- growing, thriving and adapting. life even exist in the most polluted areas of our world. We as humans must widen our 'world view' or better put 'universal view' to incorporate possibilites that include elements that lie outside of our comfort zones of understanding. We must see that all life anywhere is one and interconnected. we are part of all life in the universe.
The possible benefit and danger is the one and the same. We will be forever changed and I firmly believe change of any kind will always be for the better. We will forced to get rid of old and outmoded thoughts and beliefs and adapt new perspectives. In the end we will be bettter for it. It is the only way we grow and achieve our higher goals and selves.
As far as sending a becon for others to find us...We have already been doing that for a very long time. In all forms of electomagnitis waves. Just think that the very first radio program ever broadcasted is still traveling through space somewhere.
I run the program on two computers currently. I find it very interesting to see the different patterns discovered through the FFT program. I would like to be able to study some of these patterns more closely without corrupting the data. Posssiily even study a given frequence during a particular time periods. I would also like to have some form of report of findings from a given batch of data.
Finnally, I feel that we are limiting our selfs in our search for possible good signals. What we are looking at as good signals is a good start but I feel that we should be looking at other possibilities as well.
