Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) Yes, I do believe in ET's. Possibly not until they believe we are ready for First Contact. Closed minded individuals who believe that we are the only sentient race in this universe will be our downfall; if and when such a discovery is made. Benefits : possible better life for humankind, interstellar travel and a few answers to some of our lives mysteries. Dangers : Zealots, Fanatics and Radicals of the religious movements. These people will try to dissuade us of the good things to come and denounce the aliens as the devils' agents.

2) Yes we should transmit, but there is a good side and a bad side. Good : Benign aliens could come into contact and help us with our first travels in space. Bad : We could meet up with some really nasty creatures that are bent on destruction. Either way, it's a 50/50 chance of something at least happening. Fate shall decide.

3) To help with the number crunching aspect of SETI. The more people we get to do this, the more we can scan the stars in search of other life.
