Personal background
Currently living and working in Canada, I am originaly from Northern Ireland. I left there in 1981 to work in Saudi Arabia and meet my wife there. She is a Canadian born nurse who went to the Middle East to fund her Himalayan trek. A condition of marriage was to go with her on that trek .. what an experience. Can you imagine the stars you can see at night in the mountains??

I am a Human Resources manager at a teaching hospital in Toronto and a part time scuba (PADI) instructor and CPR instructor, I enjoy teaching and teach Human Resources subjects at the University of Toronto and at Humber College. I dabble in everything and try to master those things that grab my attention. The world of the skies and the seas fascinate me and since I cannot go to the stars I dive in the sea. I enjoy sci-fi movies and books and of course I am an avid Star Trek fan no matter what generation. Finally my other passion is motorcycle riding and my steed of choice is a 1985 BMW K100RT .. pity they have not made an underwater version ...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. The simple fact is that the odds are against use being the only inhabitated planet in the universe and if our experience on Earth is the norm there are probably as many species in existence at this point in time in our galaxy as there on this planet.

The main danger we face in discovery is that the other species are like us and that they are the dominant one they will destroy us as we destroy thiose species we encounter on Earth. Let us hope that we learn from our mistakes and take those lessions to the stars and pray that if we are discovered they will have done likewise.

Discovery is a journey of chance and if history is an indicator of the future that is how we shall discover life beyond this planet. It could come in the form of visitations and may already have happened but we may discover life through projects like SETI. If we do not seek we will not find and there is a gene in our DNA that drives us to seek, to know more...

If we wish to be found we should light the beacon fires in whatever ways we feel will attract attention.

As for being involved in this project I hate waste and I am intrigued by the idea that I could be part of the search in this way. I also play the lottery and this is a free ticket to the lottery of discovering life in the stars and the odds are pretty much the same .. astronomical. Life is a game to be played and the freebies are the best.
