Personal background
I am 32 years old and live in Orlando, Fl (home of the rat!) I am married with two step-daughters, ages 13 and 17. (YIPES!) I am an Integration specialist for an E-learning company. (this means I build web sites and do multimedia things for online training courses) I play online strategy games, am heavily involved with SCA, a medieval re-creation society, (www.sca.org) and like to watch movies a lot as I am a film major.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) Yes, I think the fact that the universe is infinite in our capabilities of measuring it lends to the theory that, no matter what the odds are that there is intelligent life out there, mathematically it has to occur. I doubt we will discover it any time soon however. AND if we do, we will probably have so little in common with it that we won't gain much benefit from it beyond the knowledge of it being there and contrasting our problems with theirs.

2) Sure, why not. We should transmit what makes humans unique on our own planet. Information about emotions, feelings, higher thought, philosophy, psychology, etc... Sending a mathematical signal into space is a waste of time. If there is someone out there listening, they are going to be saying "whoopie, they can add. DUH, we knew that already by the fact that they figured out how to transmit a signal..."

3)I run it because I am interested in the computing community that it represents. This is the only project that I know of that has thousands upon thousands of people contributing from every part of the world. That is VERY cool! It transcends language, culture, religion, geography, age, race, and creed (I always wondered why they throw creed in there... what's up with that?) All joking aside though, it feels very cool to be a part of something that involves that many people and not one of them has anything against the other people working on the project. Unheard of in this day and age.
