| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? Yes I do. I suspect that we won't meet them until we are able to leave our own solar system on our own. The benefits? Knowledge of other races, advanced technology, improved medical.
Should we transmit a beacon? I have mixed feelings about that. While it would be great to let them know we are here, we couldd attract the kind of alien that we don't want, namely ones who don't want to be friends, the ones who prefer to conquer. If we do transmit that beacon, it should be messages of friendship and pray that we only meet those who want to help and be friends.
I run SETI@Home because I am interested in finding signs of alien life and believe in SETI. Originally, I ran it because I thought it was only a cool screen saver, then I figured out it was more. I hope that the project is successful and wish those in charge much luck. |
