Personal background
G\\'day, the pic is of me and a mates dog. I started doing SETI a few years ago when I got my first toy, a P1 166 (with a massive 128M/b RAM). Since then I built a P3 450 with 256M/b RAM and a P3 933EB with 512M/b RAM and now an Athlon64 3200 with a gig of twinex. (mmm, 2 hour packets) hehe. As of April 2012 I am running an i7-2600 @ 3.70 GHz (using all 8 cores) with 8 GB RAM.
I really wanna find something or someone. I dont think we will find anything the way we are looking, but we can only do the best with the resourses available.
I wish I could have more than 2000chrs, I have an outlandish idea of who we are and where we fit into the scheme of things. :) maybe later. I\\'m a Toolmaker by trade, was a Quality Control Inspector for 12 years (9 in automotive) then in the R&D lab, again in the automotive industry, for 2 years. I am currently getting into I.T. I like flying so have almost completed my pilots licence (just a hobby, nothing else). I figure if I am gunna see a UFO I might as well get close to them (thats my excuse and I\\'m sticking to it). I dont mind abseiling, but am yet to try skydiving. (i\\'d rather land the plane thanx) lol.
Anyway, if anyone gets picked up in an alien controlled craft, COME GET ME TOO!
:)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Lets say theres 20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars in the sky. Thats a pretty big number yeah? Lets gamble on a few million to one shots.
Not very good odds are they? You wouldnt expect a very big outcome from the horses if you bet 1,000,000:1 and lost.
Would you do it 4 times? No?¿?
I feel lucky, lets gamble.

If only 1:1,000,000 stars is a galaxy that can support life like us,
If only 1:1,000,000 has a sun like ours,
If only 1:1,000,000 of those suns have planets,
If only 1:1,000,000 of those planets can support life like us,
If ALL those 1 in a million chances are STILL taken into account, then theres still 20,000,000 planets with life like us in the universe.

Yeah, wow.
