Personal background
I am 40 something, married with three daughters who are challenging and fun.
My background is in medicine but I now work as a developer with computer systems related to business.
My interest in space and astronomy has been life-long.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I feel that the current search is unlikely to find anything soon, but that the effort is worthwhile because the infrastructure has now been put in place and the many people involved will continue helping with future searches.
The way forward, in my view is for dedicated searches in areas that are not so extreme or spectacular in astronomical terms (the places where Arecibo is looking) but are more likely to support life.
Currently there is no proof one way or the other whether life exists anywhere other than on Earth. I choose to believe that other life does exist and that it is common throughout the universe. However the vast majority of life is probably non-sentient (non the less important and impressive).
Let's all keep looking, one Day we may find something.

P.S. That's me on the right in the photograph.
