Profile: Chris Craft

Personal background
I am a 33yo Network Engineer/SysAdmin for a small ISP who is
single and looking for the right man (see my web page for more info).
I collect SciFi paperbacks, old computers and am starting to accumulate
amateur radio gear. (KI0EW, formerly KB0NYS since 1994)

I consider myself an Ãœbergeek who's well rounded enough to discuss
non-geeky things. :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
- I think terrestrial life exists, and I'm prepared for the fact that it may be
quite different from what our concept of life is. The discovery of ETL will
probably be an accident or a revelation on data we'd overlooked scores of times
before, judging from the manner in which the human race has progressed in the
past. I wouldn't even begin to speculate on the impact to our society as it
could range from nonchalance to outright pandemonium; I'm no sociologist.
- Transmitting a beacon would enhance the possibility that other intelligent
beings could find their way to us. The content of the message is not quite as
important, in my opinion; just let 'em know we're here!
- I run SETI@Home because I can, and It's a nice way to use the parts of my
computer collection that are modern enough to churn out WUs at least once a day.
The project is a great way to get science boosted with all the wasted MIPS-hours
out there!
